Let me tell you a little something - I only have a minute

Gimme a mininute

So if you are wondering why I had no author on WaAr for April here is the truth
I had people ask
I had people demand
I had not a single person that had the good manners to say HI, How are you..
I do not need a paragraph people, but if you want something from me, if you want me to put in effort and money in PROMOTING YOUR stuff, then feel free to say hello.

Manners, it is free, and it is something I fail at often but I try, oh I try to make it right once I realize I have acted like a brat.

My second rant

Blurbs..
Authors, I do not care if Kirkus, The Pope, The President of South Africa Jacob Zuma, Robert Mugabe or Oprah read and left you a review, I want to know what your book is about NOT what others think after they read it, especially if you are so confused that you are not sure in which one of the 20 genre's you have listed your book falls in....then give me a blurb.  Cause guess what, without one I accept you cannot write and I move on.....

Book Review of For Love or Money (Sweet Remix) (Golden States Hearts Trilogy Book 1) by Kathy DiSanto

Book Title: For Love or Money
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Pages: 158
Author: Kathy DiSanto
Date Published: 1 April 2015

Synopsis:

A semi-sweet remix of Kathy's award-winning romantic comedy, sensual but not explicit!

“Whoever said a kiss is just a kiss never locked lips with Brent Maddox.”

Small-town practical to the soles of her size fives, high school English teacher Jen Casey has one weakness—she’s never been able to resist a dare. Ergo, when her BFF Candy Johnson throws down the triple-dog dare gauntlet, Jen has no choice but to accept the challenge. She e-mails former-classmate-turned-millionaire Brent Maddox, offering advice for the lovelorn.

But, really. Is it her fault Celebrity Magazine published the e-mail instead of forwarding it?

See, that’s the problem with dares in Jen’s experience—they almost always have dire consequences. Like Brent Maddox showing up on her doorstep—tall and golden and sexy as sin—determined to get payback. Like finding herself a reluctant guest at his sprawling Malibu hacienda, sentenced to a week of the same high life she blames for his romantic snafus.

Of course sparks start to fly. She’s only human, and Brent is an unexpectedly endearing hunk and a half. Unfortunately, Jen isn’t built for quick and steamy affairs. She’s been dreaming of that love of a lifetime man, and now she’s falling fast. She can run before it’s too late, or stay and take the biggest gamble of her life. Brent promises nights filled with passion, but will he ever offer his heart?

For Love or Money (Semi-sweet Remix)For Love or Money by Kathy Disanto
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author in return for an honest review.

This is the first book in the Golden States Hearts Trilogy. I absolutely LOVED it!

Jen Casey is a wonderful character. I liked her a lot. She is a high school English teacher, who also happens to be completely unable to resist a dare. This compulsion to prove that she can do anything anyone dares her to tends to lead her into trouble. But, will her latest dare prove to be more than she can handle?

This is a fun, lighthearted and entertaining read. This book was originally published as a Loveswept Romance. I used to love reading romances from that series, though I have no idea if they were a division of Mills and Boon or a completely different company. Nevertheless, when I heard that this book was being re-written and updated for the 21st Century, I grew excited. Having previously read a science fiction novel by this author, when she offered me the opportunity to read this book, I jumped at it.

I started to read this story and was quickly hooked. The characters are likable and lifelike. I love Jen's impulsive behaviour and, even though she should know better than to accept dares, she is just crazy enough to go through with them. I did, on occasion, think that her best friend Candy is one of those people who knows exactly which buttons to press to get a reaction. She takes perverse pleasure in winding Jen up and watching the feathers fly, so to speak. I did like her, though. Brent Maddox is a complex character. I liked him, as well as his response to Jen's e-mail. I found myself smiling through some of the dialogue, which to some may sound a bit cheesy, but that's part of the charm of this story, and the comedic situation that Jen finds herself in. The descriptions of the people and places are quite vivid and this meant I could picture each scene in my mind's eye with ease.

In a way, this story was a little bittersweet for me because I haven't read a sweet romance like this for some time, and it reminded me of how much I loved to read them. I cut my romance eye teeth on books such as this as a teenager and read them faithfully for many years. As an adult, my reading habit has seen a shift in genres, but I will always have a soft spot for romances such as this one. I can't wait to read the second book in the trilogy!

Kathy DiSanto has written a fantastic, sweet contemporary romance. I love her writing style, which is neither too fast nor too slow and the flow is wonderful; each scene flowed into the other like liquid. I am a huge fan of this author and will definitely read more of her books in the future.

As this book does not contain explicit scenes of sex (although there are some sensual ones), I highly recommend this book to teens (aged 15 upwards) and adults who love sweet contemporary romances. - Lynn Worton

Review:

Dead End (Escape #3)Dead End by David J. Antocci
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the third and last book in the Escape series. I absolutely loved it!

Abby is a fantastic character. I really liked her when I was first introduced to her in Escape, A New Life. She is a survivor of a grueling TV based competition that saw her fighting for her life on an island in the first book. I have been impressed at how this character has grown over this series. She is most definitely someone I would be afraid of. She is tough, determined and one kick-ass (pardon the term, but it's the only one that fit) woman, who also happens to be very dangerous when cornered.

When I heard that this book was being released, I became rather excited! I loved the first two books and couldn't wait to read this one. The story continues on from the end of the second book, although it is now based nearly a year after the event of that massive twist that left me in shock. This story is again told through various points of view, which I loved. This time, we also get Ava's point of view and I realised that she definitely is her mother's daughter. She's just as spunky and determined as her mother and she'll be another dangerous female when she gets older; watch out boys!
Abby also meets an old friend called Donny, who helped her escape from Bryce in the beginning. I really liked Donny. He has done some terrible things in his past and was trapped due to family ties to the mob, but he is not evil.

I am, in general, not keen on revenge type books, because that's not how I believe justice should be served. But, when you have characters like Bryce, who is a sick, twisted piece of work, I suppose the only way to deal with them is to fight fire with fire. He is as slippery as an eel and very difficult to pin criminal charges on, as he's been in a mob family and learnt all the tricks of the trade. He made my skin crawl from the first time I met him and subsequent meetings just reinforced this. He has no conscientiousness and is a psychopath in my opinion. I don't know if it's the old nature versus nature question, but all I know he's evil!

The story is a fast paced ride from beginning to end and I loved the wild roller coaster ride it took me on. This story had me on a roller coaster of emotion: happiness, anxiety, anger, sadness and a few other mixed emotions. The ending was a little anti-climatic after all the action (including gunfights, explosions and other dangerous situations), but it finished off the story nicely and I am now looking forward to reading more books by this author as soon as possible.

David Antocci has written an exciting conclusion to his debut series. The characters are very lifelike and the descriptions of the situations and scenes are vivid and easily pictured in the mind's eye. I would love to see this as a either a TV serial or mini series or even on the big screen. This author is definitely one to watch! I love his writing style which is fast paced and extremely fluid. I have added him to my favourite authors list!

I highly recommend this book if you love thrillers, suspense and/or dystopian fiction or are fans of books similar to The Hunger Games Trilogy. - Lynn Worton

Review:

New Beginnings (Others of Edenton, #0.5)New Beginnings by Brandy L. Rivers
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I received a complimentary copy of this audiobook from the author in return for an honest review.

I previously read and reviewed this book in December last year and gave it 4 stars. However, the author approached me to see if I would like to listen to this book in audiobook format. As I have been listening to a lot more books in this way, I agreed. I am glad I did, as I enjoyed it more! This is an amended review to the one I made in December.

This book is narrated by Kelley Hazen Story Teller Productions. I really enjoyed her interpretation of the characters, especially Jess, as I struggled to like her when I originally read the story. Kelley Hazen's reading voice is lovely to listen to. I love her diction and she gave each character their own voice, which brought them to life. This helped me see them in a different light as to how I pictured them in my own mind originally. I would definitely listen to more books narrated by this lady in the future.

Jess is a character I didn't like when I originally read the story, but since listening to the audiobook, she has grown on me. She didn't seem as whiny as my mind made her out to be originally. It just goes to show how people can read the same story and have completely different reaction depending on their mood at the time! However, I still found her a bit hypocritical. She is a werewolf, who also happens to be a psychic. She is determined, feisty and a force to be reckoned with, especially since she can see flashes of the future. However, she also has a tendency to meddle in the lives of her friends quite a bit, but doesn't like it when others to do the same to her.

Slater is the Alpha of the wolf pack. I really liked this man. He is a tough but fair leader, who has a sense of honour and is respected by his pack. When Jess comes to Edenton, he doesn't know what to make of the instant attraction he feels for her.

I have a huge passion for erotic paranormal romances and was looking forward to listening to this one. I still found the dialogue to be a bit melodramatic and too "teenage angst-y" for grown adult characters. Jess treats most of the pack, apart from Brody, with disdain, as if they are not worth her time. What Slater sees in her is a mystery to me, as she treats him worse than the others at times. Granted, she doesn't want to be attracted to her Alpha (and I get that), but as she can see them together in the future, why she treats him the way she does confuses me. She also tends to whine when things aren't going the way she wants them to. But, as this is the prequel to the main series, the story introduces the reader to most of the main characters who will feature more in the main story arc; they are all fascinating characters. The story is told through several points of view, which made it a quite interesting experience. There is danger and romance aplenty in this book. The heat between Jess and Slater fairly burned the pages, even as they fight their mutual attraction. The characters came to life and, due to the vivid descriptions, I felt like I was there, watching the scenes unfold. Liam is a character who made my skin crawl. He is a very emotionally unsteady person, with a seriously dangerous streak. His obsession with being Alpha made me wonder if he was brainwashed, delusional, or both.

The ending left me looking forward to continuing the series and, as I have already read In Too Deep, I am looking forward to reading Shadows of the Past as soon as possible.

Brandy L. Rivers has written an intriguing start to a series. I loved her fast paced writing style, and the flow was wonderful. Unfortunately, the melodramatic dialogue was the only thing that let this story down, in my opinion. However, with that being said, I would definitely read more of her books in the future.

Due to explicit scenes of a sexual nature, I do not recommend this book to readers under the age of 18. However, I do recommend this book if you love hot erotic paranormal romances full of werewolves, vampires, fae, druids etc. - Lynn Worton

Review:

The CharterThe Charter by Gillian Hamer
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author in return for an honest review.

This is an intriguing thriller. I loved it!

Sarah Morton is a wonderful character. I liked her almost instantly. She is a normal woman, struggling with the death of her father. She is drawn, however, into a mystery when his death turns out to be murder. Can she solve his murder and figure out what his cryptic clues to a treasure mean before the murderer strikes again?

I am sad to say that it has taken me quite a while to get to read this book due to my large reading list. However, once I started to read the story, I struggled to put the book down! I was completely engrossed in this book from beginning to end, although the story started slow but quickly built up speed as it unfolded. There are some very likable characters that join Sarah on her journey. I liked both Detective Sergeant Daniel Buchanan (AKA Danny) and his partner DS Lewis. They are the police officers called in to investigate Sarah's father's murder. I also liked Luke Evan's, Sarah's childhood friend. I also liked Angelina Stewart, an eleven year old who also happens to be a ghost.

The story is set on the Welsh Anglesey coastline which, due to the vivid description given by the author, came to life on the page. There have been many shipwrecks on that coastline over the years. The Charter is a ship that was travelling from Australia to Southampton but, due to bad weather, was wrecked off the coast of Wales. I have been to Wales twice. Once to Brecon Beacons and once to Pwllheli. Both these places are beautiful in completely different ways, but this allowed me to picture the scenes, especially the ones on the cliffs with ease. I loved the mystery and intrigue that kept me guessing for quite a while. The story is told through several points of view, but Sarah, being the main character, has the most say. This book is part treasure hunt and part murder mystery. This is a type of book that I would love to be made into a TV movie. There are several twists and turns that surprised me, as well as a couple of shocking moments that made me gasp. The identity of the murderer was a complete shock, due to the excellent red herring dangled by the author. This book is more like a supernatural thriller, as there is a ghost, but there is a lot of action and danger involved to make this a fast paced read. I reached the end of the book and sat for a while afterwards, thinking about what I had just read. This story has been an emotional roller coaster ride from beginning to end.

Gillian Hamer has written a fantastic supernatural thriller. I love her writing style, her descriptions of the characters and the Welsh coast are very lifelike. The pace of the story is wonderful, even though it started off slowly. I am now looking forward to reading more books by this author in the future.

I highly recommend this book if you love supernatural, psychological or crime thrillers. - Lynn Worton

Book Review of Saving Eve by Dianna Hardy

Book Title: Saving Eve
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Pages: 134
Author: Dianna Hardy
Date Published: 29 April 2015

Synopsis:

Author's Note: Saving Eve is the story of what happened to Lucifer after The Last Dragon (The Witching Pen series) - the only character who had a 'loose thread' in that series. If you haven't read The Witching Pen series, stop now and read no further. Read that first. I tried really hard (too hard, actually) to make this book readable for all, but just as with The Last Dragon (for which I had the same intention), I failed. Lucifer's personality, hinted at story, and the creation myth set up in that series proved to be too complex to explain all over again, in this book's context, without losing some of the intensity of this story and making things more complicated than they needed to be. So, the end result is that Saving Eve - even though not directly part of the arc of The Witching Pen series - is truly one for Witching Pen fans, and in particular, for those who had a soft spot for Lucifer, the first angel to fall. It begins at the point we left Lucifer in The Last Dragon...

Amid long, wild grass, a snake slithers, hidden.
Hidden until a man opens his eyes...

Awaking with amnesia in St Mary's Hospital, after a near-fatal freak accident, he is known only as Luc. With the help of Evie Gold, the kind, young woman who found him, he starts a new life - a second chance, a clean slate.

A bond burgeons between them.

But disturbing dreams of dark deeds become waking recountings. A blackness is uncoiling - seductive, familiar and dangerously provocative.

An ancient craving stirs; an old addiction rises.

Nothing is as it seems, and as reality crumbles, Luc finds himself asking, not just who he is, but...

Who is Evie?

From the author of the international bestselling Witching Pen series, Dianna Hardy takes a seed from The Last Dragon, and brings you an existential story of two beings in search of completion.

Length: Short novel at just over 40,000 words.
Written in British English.

Review:

Saving EveSaving Eve by Dianna Hardy
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the fifth and final book, and also a spin off of the Witching Pen Series. I loved it!

Luc (or Lucifer) is a completely interesting character. He intrigued me in The Last Dragon, as he is not evil, but as a Fallen Angel, darkness surrounds him. He feeds on the pain and suffering of humans, but he has always loved Eve. This is his story of what happened to him after the dragon awoke and changed the world forever.

Evie is a wonderful character. I am glad to get to know her better. She is the head of the research and analysis team in Earth Sciences at Oxford University. When she finds a stranger, hurt and suffering with amnesia, she feels responsible for him and takes him into her home.

When I heard the author was writing this story, I became very excited. I love The Witching Pen series and Lucifer's story is most definitely the icing on the cake! I was completely hooked from beginning to end. The story starts ten years after the dragon's awakening and the Earth has seen major climate change due to the constant earthquakes that have rumbled ever since. I love how the story follows both Luc and Evie as they try to figure things out and is told from both of their perspectives. Hang on to your hats though, because this is not a typical romance novel! There are several twists and turns that surprised me completely - I was in shock at some of the revelations towards the end of the story. This book took me on an emotional roller coaster ride! It made me laugh and it made me cry. I love both of these characters and, though they are only fictional, they seem to be as real as you and me. I feel sad that this series has come to an end, but I have loved every minute that I have spent with all of the characters of the series. The author has tied all of the events the characters had to face in the series into an amazing journey. I will miss them all, but I can always visit them within the pages of the books on my Kindle.

Dianna Hardy is a fantastic author! I am a HUGE fan of hers! I love her writing style, which is fast paced and fluid, and the flow of the story is wonderful. Her characters are flawed, but this makes them extremely lifelike and likable in my eyes.

As this book contains scenes of explicit sex, I do not recommend this book for readers younger than 17. However, I HIGHLY recommend this book (PLEASE read the Witching Pen novella's and The Last Dragon first though!) if you love erotic paranormal romances full of sexy demons, angels and witches! Oh, and dragons! - Lynn Worton

Review 4*

I received a free sample of this product in return for an honest review.

This is a very handy desk lamp. I really like it!

I review books more than I review electronic goods, but when I was approached about reviewing this lamp I decided to give it a try, as I have been looking for a desk lamp for a while. However, I have never found one that I liked the look of. But, when I saw a picture of this lamp, I was immediately drawn to it's looks and versatility. I was sent a white version to try.

I opened the box and was impressed with how it was folded in on itself. It collapses in on itself to lie almost completely flat. This makes it easier to store away when not in use. This flexibility is produced by several hinges, which allows the user to position the lamp in several configurations and positions to get the most out of the LED light coming from the unit. The LED lamp head itself can be tilted into various positions - from the usual downward facing lamp to an upwards facing one to make an up-lighter, and can be twisted from portrait to landscape, depending on how you like it or what you are working on. I also liked the touch facility of the buttons on the base and are integrated to lie flat within the casing. These buttons have several different uses too. There is the typical on/off switch, two brightness control buttons - one to brighten the lamp and the other to dim the light. There is also two temperature control buttons - one to give a brighter white light for when you need a bit more light and the other changes to a more yellow or dimmer light when required. This option is great if you need a more natural light to work with that doesn't hurt the eyes. I am not fond of the dimmer/yellow light myself, as I like a bright light to read with. However, other users may prefer the less harsh brightness when reading/working. There is also a button for a nightlight function. This is a blue light that gives a gentle glow that brighten's the dark enough to see clearly. This is great if you either have kids, or have to answer nature's call in the middle of the night without disturbing your significant other with a blinding white light.
One thing I haven't used yet on the light is the USB port on the side, which comes in handy if you need to charge your phone or tablet. But, that doesn't mean I won't. I just haven't had need of it as yet.

All in all, I have enjoyed testing the lamp and it's various configurations. I am glad I accepted to review this product. I am not sure if this lamp would appeal to those who like the traditional looking desk lamps, but I think that if I had seen this in a shop I would have definitely bought one for myself. Only time will tell how long the LED lights will burn for before it dies but, I hope that once it does, these lamps will still be available to purchase!

I recommend this desk lamp if you are looking for a stylish and versatile light that will fit comfortably in not only an office, but on a table in the lounge or bedroom. - Lynn Worton
