Book Review of Genevieve - A Witchblood Story (Witchblood Series) by Emma Mills

'Genevieve' - A Witchblood Novelette'Genevieve' - A Witchblood Novelette by Emma Mills
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I received a copy of this book from the author in return for an honest review.

This is the fourth book in the Witchblood Series, but it is a novelette and not a novel. I loved it!

First off, I would like to say that I LOVE the cover! It's quite striking!

Genevieve is a fascinating character. I really liked her when I first met her as Eva in Witchblood (Book 1 of the series). She is not focused on much in that book, so reading this novelette brought her to life more. I loved her independent streak, even though the time she lived in frowned on such forward thinking in their women!

This novelette, although short, has a wealth of descriptive text woven into a compelling tale of one woman's attempt to survive against the odds. I was a bit surprised at how willingly Genevieve accepted being turned into a vampire. Although, after giving it some thought, I suppose the alternative (death) was less appealing! I was also a bit unsure of Sebastian and his motives at first, but realised that he loved Genevieve and wanted to look after her. I still don't like his character though, and I cannot explain why. It's just a feeling I have after reading the other books.

Emma Mills has written another page turner! I was a bit disappointed when I reached the end of the book though; I felt it could have been a bit longer! I am now looking forward to reading any books by this author in the future.

I highly recommend this book if you love YA or paranormal romance. - Lynn Worton

Book Review of The Killing Times (An FBI Romantic Thriller Book 1) by Morgan Kelley

The Killing TimesThe Killing Times by Morgan Kelley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A friend recommended this book to me. I would like to thank her, because it is fantastic! Thank you K.C. - I loved it!

Elizabeth LaRue is a fantastic character. She is a dedicated law enforcement officer, who has taken up her father's position as Sheriff in her home town after his death. She is extremely methodical, and uses her training as a former FBI agent to good effect. Unfortunately, she also tends to be stubborn, but when several people go missing and the bodies start piling up, she has no choice to call in for assistance.

Ethan Blackhawk is an FBI agent who tends to bend the rules, if not break them completely. I loved his character! He's a rebel with a cause! He's super sexy, but he doesn't seem to realise his appeal to the opposite sex. After skating too close to the edge once more, he is sent, with his partner, to assist the Sheriff in trying to find the killer or killers in the town of Salem.

This is a fantastic romantic thriller! I struggled to put it down! Unfortunately, I had to do so often, and was extremely annoyed because of it! I was hooked from the first page! The suspense and mystery of who the killer was, and why they did what they did was woven into an amazing story filled with twists and turns. These twists sometimes led to red herrings that had me wondering about several of the characters. Were they involved?
This story is mostly told from Elizabeth and Ethan's points of view, but there are also a few other characters that have their say. This gives the book a movie-like feel. In fact, I could see this being made into a TV movie with no problem. The characters, locations and the situations all came alive for me. The romance between Elizabeth and Ethan was HOT and STEAMY! Their chemistry literally smouldered on the page! The scenes were somewhat explicit, but not erotic.
The killer was a complete surprise! I did suspect a certain person, and they were involved, but I should have read enough murder mysteries by now to expect the unexpected! However, I sure didn't see this one coming!

Morgan Kelley has written an exciting romantic thriller that flowed beautifully! It was fast paced, but not rushed. I am now looking forward to reading the next book in the series, Sacred Burial Grounds.

Due to the violence and sexual content, I do not recommend this book for younger readers. However, I highly recommend this book if you love murder mysteries/thrillers/suspense or romantic thrillers. - Lynn Worton

Book Review of Evil Among Us (Species Intervention #6609 Book 5) by J.K. Accinni

Evil Among Us Species Intervention # 6609 Book 5Evil Among Us Species Intervention # 6609 Book 5 by J.K. Accinni
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the fifth book in an amazing series! I loved it!

In the aftermath of the terrorist attack, Lorna, Jennifer and Seth are struggling to reach the Hive. They face several obstacles along the way. Meanwhile, inside the Hive, life has settled down somewhat, and Abby, Scotty, Jose, Echo, Chloe, along with Captain Cobby and his son, Kane, Peter, Ginger Mae, her daughter Daisy, Kenya, Johno, Netty, Wil and Baby, are gifted the protection of the Womb.

I found this story not as dark as the previous four books, but even so, this book has so many twists and turns I struggled to put it down! There are several revelations that shocked me, but I also found myself faced with several new questions. Such as, "What is the purpose of the Womb's delaying the birth of Kenya's baby?" and "What will the future hold for the survivors?". I am hoping that these and other questions will be answered in the sixth book, which I am now looking forward to reading! *SPOILER ALERT* I don't normally write spoilers, but in this case I have to! - I must admit that I was not sad to read about Seth's demise! He was a REALLY nasty piece of work!

On a side note: I hope that humanity will avoid anything like a nuclear war. We are the only sentient beings (that I know of!) on this planet that is causing damage to it. I am not surprised that Mother Nature is fighting back: Earthquakes, Tsunami's, Hurricanes etc. I sometimes feel that we are reaping the cosmic Karma caused by our actions and greed!

J.K. Accinni is a fantastic writer and has become one of my favourite authors. Her stories are most certainly dark, but there is compassion, and a plea to change our ways in her work. I agree with her sentiments. It is not too late, but one day it may be, and there will be no return.

I highly recommend this book (and series) if you love Sci-fi or Dystopian genres. - Lynn Worton

Book Review of In His Honor by Crystal Cattabriga

In His HonorIn His Honor by Crystal Cattabriga
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Review 6******

I received a copy of this book from the author in return for an honest review.

This is the second book of a YA Christian series written by Crystal Cattabriga. I loved it!

Bobby McCallister is a fantastic character! He is a thoughtful, loving son and I fell in love with him when I first read Saving Bobby, where he was a 12 year old with the weight of the world on his shoulders. Now, he's a strapping 18 year old, and heading to war.

This is a story that touched me very deeply. Although not as emotionally wrenching as Saving Bobby, this story still managed to have an impact. This book has Christian beliefs, but it is not preachy at all. As I don't have any close family fighting in a war that I feel is wrong, my heart goes out to all those families that do. It is the sacrifice that they (and characters like Bobby) make to keep us safe, that makes me proud of the men and women that serve their respective countries. These people are exceptional.
Bobby is no less so, even though he is fictional (or is he?). I really connected to this character, and although I am not overly religious, I respect his beliefs. As I read his story, I struggled to put this book down! In fact, I read this book in one afternoon! Bobby's journey is full of danger, but it is also filled with love. I am now looking forward to reading the next book in the series!

Crystal Cattabriga is an amazing author! She brings her characters to life on the page! I love her writing style, which is extremely fluid and fast paced. She is one of my favourite authors, and I will read any of her books in the future.

I highly recommend this book if you love YA Christian Fiction and even if you are not religious at all. - Lynn Worton

Evil Among Us by J K Accinni

Evil Among Us Species Intervention # 6609 by J K Accinni

Evil Among Us [Book 5 in the Species intervention series]
This has been an amazing series and in this the penultimate book in the series some secrets have been revealed to the reader.
Baby and Echo have indeed been up to no good.  But you will need to read it for yourself to see what they have been up to.
Seth …..What to say about him.  The dark side in me would have made his end gorier but I did not write the book so I had to be content with his death.
Kenya is still pregnant and herein lies my problem with the logic of the narrative, I followed it nicely where it was explained why Kenya will remain pregnant as long as she is in the hive.  Then I remembered the piglets…thank you Seth!!! And three elephants fell pregnant and birthed…. hmmm.  So now I no longer understand the logic and how it is valid for one species but not for the other.
In this book the author really, really pushes the envelope against the human race and were I not too such a large degree in agreement with her regarding our continual negative impact I think I might have started to take offence at some stage during this book.  My love for animals saved me from this judgment although it did cross my mind that it might be hard for others to follow.  That however will only be an issue if the reader has not read the series in sequence.
The strife that Seth causes and the residual effects of his poison within the Hive was expertly done by the author as character's goes Seth is a guy I loved to hate…. and I mean Hate.  Even after his death the Hive is still in upset and it worked perfectly to show how one evil influence affects everything even after it has been removed.  I loved this part of the story.
Nettie … hmm her reaction to what Baby and Echo did shocked me.  I am unsure as to why.  It was very human and very understandable but I had come to believe that she and Will together with some of the other elders have moved on and ascended to a higher state of being.  If I were in the Hive I would not have been so easy to accept her action and I would have been very weary of somebody with this much power still being ruled by her emotions.

All in all a great fast read.  I would ideally give it a 4.5 star rating but since it is not an option I will go with a 5*.

Book Review of Cursed (The Thorne Trilogy #1) by R.K. Ryals

Cursed (The Thorne Trilogy, #1)Cursed by R.K. Ryals
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Review 7*******

This is the first book in a new series by R.K. Ryals. I loved it!

Monroe is a fantastic character! I loved her when I first met her in Redemption (The Redemption Trilogy). She was, and is, the best friend of Dayton Blainey. She also happens to be a witch, a very talented one! Being able to sense when demons are around comes in handy sometimes, especially when Luther "Thorne" Craig is concerned!

Luther Craig is a hybrid demon, and brother to Marcus Craig (Dayton's boyfriend). He is a sexy demon! I'm not sure why ladies are drawn to characters like these (myself included!); Maybe it's because there is something wild and uninhibited about these characters, or it's got something to do with the primitive brain being attracted to the dangerous types. Nevertheless, Luther likes being BAD, period! However, being a bodyguard to Monroe was the last thing he wanted; Sent by his brother, he has no choice.

I had been wanting to read this story from the moment I had read a small excerpt of it in an anthology called "Paranormal Days Gone Awry". However, even if I hadn't read the anthology, I would still have wanted to read this series! I have read R.K. Ryals's other series (The Redemption Series and Acropolis Series, not to forget her new series, The Scribes of Medeisia) and loved them, so I knew that Munroe's story would be fantastic! I wasn't wrong! This story is hard to put down once you start reading it! It is fast paced and full of Munroe's snarky thoughts, whether about Luther or her cousin. These comments are quite witty and had me giggling out loud; I got a few odd looks on the bus, let me tell you!
This book is also exciting, as there is danger in the form of the hellhounds; They are nasty! And the re-appearance of Lilith, which sent shivers down my back! There is also a matter of a spell gone awry! This further complicates an already complicated situation, and let me just say that Luther is not amused! I am now dying to read the next book in the series!

R.K. Ryals has written another fantastic YA Paranormal Romance Series. She is one of my favourite authors, and I will read anything written by her.

I HIGHLY recommend this series if you love YA Paranormal Romances with demons, angels, gargoyles, witches and strong characters that come alive on the page! I also highly recommend that you read The Redemption Series (to find out how it all began) and Acropolis Series (Conor Reinhardt's story). - Lynn Worton

Book Review of Wings Of Vengeance by Kylie Price

Wings of VengeanceWings of Vengeance by Kylie Price
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I received a copy of this book from the author in return for an honest review.

This is an intriguing romance. I must admit that I loved the cover, and once I read the blurb, I really wanted to read this book!

Lara is a Death Stalker and a character who is driven by vengeance for what happened to her in her previous life; being murdered can do that. I really wanted to like this character, but I struggled to. I found her to be very self-centred and selfish. Her motive was understandable, but I have never been able to hold a grudge for long, and cannot understand why people do; I find it just hurts yourself, and poisons you with bitterness. However, it is her emotional blindness towards her fellow Death Stalkers that really bugged me! I wanted to shake her and tell her to "Snap out of it!". I'm not sure how Rollan could fall for her. Perhaps he saw something in Lara that I couldn't?

Rollen is a fantastic character that I thought was very sexy! He is one of the oldest Death Stalkers (a type of "Human Angel" for want of a better description), created by Mathias to help protect humans from Spawn (a type of vampire/demon). He has loved Lara from afar for a long time, but when he finds out that she is planning on leaving the Death Stalkers, and effectively ending her life, he has to find some way of getting her to stay.

This is a paranormal romance that introduced me to a new type of supernatural being. I loved the idea of these "angels". However, I was left a bit cold by the vengeance aspect of the story. I can understand wanting an eye for an eye to right a wrong, but that doesn't mean I condone violence. Vigilante justice is sinking to the level of the party that incurred the injustice in the first place. I don't believe that does anyone any good. I could understand Lara's need for justice, but not how she goes about it.
I loved the interaction of all the other Death Stalkers, and the camaraderie they have with one another. Marcus is a consummate flirt, Shyanne is a sweet person, Nathanial is fantastic and Mathias is an enigma. These characters bring this book to life. The story is fast paced and kept me entertained from the first page. There is enough action, danger and romance mixed together to create an exciting read!

Kylie Price has written a paranormal romance that intrigued me. Her book is certainly unique, and I am looking forward to reading more in the series and watching how these characters evolve and grow.

As there are scenes of explicit sexual situations and violence, plus the use of bad language, I do not recommend this book for younger readers. However, I do recommend this book if you love STEAMY and HOT Paranormal Romances. - Lynn Worton

Book Review of Unleash (Vampire Erotic Theatre Romance Series Book 6) by Felicity Heaton

Unleash (Vampire Erotic Theatre Romance, #6)Unleash by Felicity E. Heaton
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Review 6******

I received an Advance Reader Copy of this book from the author in return for an honest review.

This is the sixth and final book in the Vampire Erotic Theatre Romance Series. I loved it!

Snow is a wonderful character! He is fiercely protective and loving, but is haunted by a disease that releases a rage that he cannot control. I was intrigued about his story when he was first introduced in Covet. My heart went out to this man, as he dealt with his bloodlust. This is an affliction caused by what we would today call in-breeding. He has suffered through unimaginable pain and guilt for what he did to his family so long ago.

Aurora is also a fabulous character! She is feisty and strong. But, she too has baggage from her past. As an Angel, she has been watching Snow from afar for 2000 years. Unable to resist any longer, she goes to him in his darkest hour.

Reading this book made me extremely happy, but also very sad! Happy because I finally got to read Snow's story, which I had been wanting to read from the first moment I met him in Covet; sad, because it is the end of the series. Snow's story is full of emotion. I found myself, more than once, with tears in my eyes! Snow is an emotionally scarred man. Having a disease that makes you become savage and extremely dangerous is a terrifying prospect. However, I was oddly touched with Snow as he tried to control himself. I don't know if it's the mothering instinct, but I just wanted to give him a hug! I'm not sure if he would have torn my head off if I had tried, but even if he did, I wouldn't blame him.
Aurora has a calming influence on him, and they make a wonderful couple! I must admit that I was surprised at Aurora's link to Snow, but when I found out how the link occurred, I was deeply disturbed!
But this link, I think, is Snow's salvation. There are some deeply touching scenes that made me almost turn to mush! If I wasn't in love with Snow at the beginning (which I was when reading Covet, by the way!), I would have fallen for him whilst reading this book!

Felicity Heaton is my top favourite author! Her books are filled with characters that are extremely lifelike! They have flaws, feel pain and love deeply. I love how her books not only take you on an adventure, but also on an emotional journey. I am now looking forward to reading her two new series Eternal Mates and Guardians of Hades!

As this book is an erotic romance, I do not recommend this book to younger readers. However, I HIGHLY recommend this book (and series!) if you love HOT, STEAMY paranormal romances. - Lynn Worton

Belgariad book 2 - Queen of sorcery by David Eddings

Belgariad book 2 - Queen of Sorcery by David Eddings
Narrated by Cameron Biarly

Aunt Paul comes to her full force in this book looking after Belgariad who himself comes into his powers.  I love aunt Paul and Mr Wolf and the way they move from town to town speaking to monarchs imparting what they have learned regarding the coming war was nice and interesting and lend itself to fluff out more characteristics of the book's main protagonists.
It is also contains some really funny parts and these I enjoyed most of all.  The pace is slow as per usual for the epic fantasy genre but listening to it on Audio makes it fun and never bores.
The narrator of this book is Cameron Biarly and he manages to make the story comes to life.
I really enjoyed the story and I am sure that most of the people who read this is already fantasy genre fanatics so you will probably love this.
I did.

Book Review of Caleo (Leech) : Book 1 by james crawford

Caleo (Leech, #1)Caleo by James Crawford
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Review 6******

WOW! This is a fantastic story! I loved it!

Caleo Anima is a wonderful character! He is a warm and loving eighteen year old boy, but because of his pale skin and snow white hair, he is seen as an oddity and is shunned by most of his peers. I think this is very sad! I would love to meet him in real life! Maybe because I'm a bit of an outcast myself, I understand what he is going through! Caleo is a teenager with the usual teen problems (bullies, being ostracised and being (possibly) gay). However, all that pales in comparison to what is about to happen. He is thrust into a hidden war, when he finds out that he has powers that both sides would like to use. Caleo, along with his cousins Jack and Jillian, is thrust into an adventure full of danger and intrigue.

I hadn't heard of this book until I was invited to an event on Facebook for the release. When I got my copy, I was completely hooked from the first page! It starts off with an amazing and unusual event that shocked me! I struggled to put the book down after that! This is a completely unique story that pits different camps of "Leeches" (people with special abilities/powers) against each other and humans. I loved the way the story flowed. It was fast paced, but it didn't feel rushed. I loved meeting Jack and Jillian. They are fascinating characters, but I must admit that Jillian came across a bit stuck up and uptight. She loosened up a bit and became more likeable as the story progressed. Jack, on the other hand, I would love as a brother! His sense of humour had me sniggering. He's full of himself, but in a completely likeable way. As the story progressed, I got to meet some other fascinating characters that had me wondering what their agenda was; There's a friend that is an enemy, and an enemy that is a friend! The intrigue of that alone would have had me hooked, never mind the other stuff that happened!
The ending has a cliffhanger that made me gasp! I hate endings like this, but I also love them. Cliffhangers are the bane of readers such as myself! The problem with them is that they make a reader want to read the next book right away! I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series, called Jack, as soon as I can!

james crawford has written an amazing story that is totally unique and exciting! I am adding this author to my "Favourite Authors" list, and will be on the look out for more of this author's work in the future.

I HIGHLY recommend this book if you love paranormal/science fiction/YA genres. - Lynn Worton

Book Review of Liam and the Grump by Graham Austin-King

Liam and the GrumpLiam and the Grump by Graham Austin-King
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is a super children's book for the age range of 4-8 years old.

Liam is a precocious child, who has a nasty temper. I loved this little boy, as he tried to tame his temper by getting rid of it. I could have told him that his method wouldn't work, because I've tried it myself! But, pull it out he does! Now he has a temper that is running amok! What then happens is an adventure that every child can somewhat relate to! I know, because I was one once (hard to believe, I know!).

This is a fantastic story book about trying to control your temper. It is told in such a way that it entertains, and keeps even the most shortest attention span hooked! I love the illustrations that are drawn in the book. They are done artfully and with great expression. I especially love the one showing Liam besides his artwork on the wall. I could feel what he felt, because I've been in the same situation and could relate.

Graham Austin-King has written a wonderful children's story that can be read as a bedtime story, or can be read by children (depending on reading ability).

As there are pictures in this story, this book can only be read on tablets such as the iPad and on Kindle Fire's and android phones using reading apps. Unfortunately, if you have the ordinary Kindle, you will be unable to view it. However, a paperback is available. I highly recommend this book for children of all ages! (Yes, I mean you too Mums and Dads!). - Lynn Worton

Ex Heroes by Peter Clines

Ex Heroes by Peter Clines

* * * *
This is a delightful new and fresh take on the Zombie Apocalypse with Superheroes being part of the plot and the main protagonists.
I loved how the story looped in on itself, giving the reader a glimpse into how not only the Zombie's came to be but also the Superheroes.
The dialogue is fast and believable.  The narrator did a marvelous job in giving the main protagonists their own voice and kept up with the choice as he progressed with the narration.
I really enjoyed this book and am sure most people who like this genre will feel the same.

Book Review of Armored Hearts by Melissa Turner Lee and Pauline Creeden

Armored HeartsArmored Hearts by Pauline Creeden
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I have previously read books by Melissa Turner Lee, but I haven't read anything by Pauline Creeden before, so I was curious to find out what these two authors could come up with. This is a fantastic story! I loved it!

Tristan Gareth Smyth is a fascinating character. Unable to walk, he uses a wheelchair to get around. I liked this character very much. He did have a tendency to mope, but he also has a pragmatic outlook on life. He pushes people away by being surly and difficult; I think he does this to avoid either pity or getting hurt, which is understandable, but (in my opinion) unnecessary. When he rescues a young girl, he finds out a shocking secret about himself. He can fly!

I can honestly say that I have never read a book like this! It is completely different to anything I have read before. There are elements of romance mixed in with an action/adventure that was very refreshing! I have heard of Steampunk in fashion (i.e. utilising old fashioned clothing with a modern twist), however, I never actually thought about it outside of the abstract. This book takes the Victorian era and puts a modern twist into it. I was completely fascinated with the "Bonnet Club" and what the ladies actually got up to. I suppose that if you liked tinkering with machines or inventing in those times, it was considered "un-lady-like". However, I slightly digress. This story took me on an amazing adventure, with secrets and revelations, mystery and suspense, combined with a touching romance. (Oh, and Seelie fairies!) I am most definitely looking forward to reading the next book in the series!

Melissa Turner Lee was already one of my favourite authors, so I am going to have to add Pauline Creeden to the list too! This was an amazing collaboration, and I hope these two authors will continue to work together for a long time to come!

I highly recommend this book if you love action/adventure, paranormal romance or Steampunk. - Lynn Worton

Raving Violet by Valerie Gilbert

Raving Violet
by
Valerie Gilbert
I listened to this book on Audio the narrator is the author herself Valerie Gilbert.
So when I signed on for this I did not know what I was signing on for.
Right now, I am very glad for that.
Valerie took blog posts she has written and put them together in book form then in audio book form where she decided to narrate herself.
This is not an avenue I would recommend for most authors but she pulled it off brilliantly.
The blog posts, ranging from branding to parenthood to decking the cards towards a positive point of life view is entertaining, funny and at stages makes you think.
I loved this.
I'll keep it for this is the type of thing you can listen to over and over and again and keep learning with every listen.
Some of which the author discuss is not part of my life view.
But that is fine.
I read to broaden my horizons not to keep new ideas out.

Book Review of Light & Dark: The Awakening of the Mageknight by D.M. Fife

Light & Dark: The Awakening of the Mageknight (Light & Dark, #1)Light & Dark: The Awakening of the Mageknight by Daniel M. Fife
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Review 7*******

I received a copy of this book from the author in return for an honest review.

WOW!! This is a fantastic YA coming of age fantasy novel! I loved it!

Danny Firoth is a fantastic character! He is a typical teen. Or is he? He likes to play a card game called Knights of the Light, which would be comparable to children's card games played in all school playgrounds. (Think Yu-Gi-Oh or Pokemon). He is surprised to find out that he can see "shadows", which are a type of being from the land of Dark. As he is one of the few able to see these "shadows", he is tested, and then accepted into the White Rock Academy of Illumination to become a Knight of the Light.

I have been eagerly wanting to read this book, because I'm a huge fan of Fantasy, whether YA or otherwise. I must admit that once I started reading this book, I did not want to put it down! This book is an amazing and exciting read from the first page! The characters themselves are very interesting, and come alive on the page. Danny's five friends are an eclectic mix. They are Chris, Alonso, Matt, Doug and Anthony. They each have their own personalities. I liked them all, even Alonso, who is the most egotistical and hot headed of them all. This book did remind me slightly of the Harry Potter books, with a dash of Dungeons and Dragons (a game played in the 1980's - not sure if it's still popular) thrown in for good measure! However, there are some differences that made this book totally unique! Instead of wands, there are swords! There are various weapons in the Knight's arsenal, but their best weapon is their sword, called Bondeds. Each sword is unique, and has amazing powers. The descriptions of sword play and the uniforms used is fantastic! The attention to detail makes the school come alive! I could actually see this as a movie, it's that good!
I am now looking forward to reading the next book in the series: Light & Dark: The Black Bonded.

D.M. Fife has written an exciting YA fantasy/action adventure/coming of age novel filled with dragons, elves, dwarves, sword fights and memorable characters. I HIGHLY recommend this book to children in the 11+ age range, and to adults who love YA Fantasy. - Lynn Worton

Sebastian by Christoph Fischer

Sebastian by Christoph Fischer his second book in the three nations series

Sebastian is a character driven story of a non practising Jewish boy who looses his leg before WWI!
This loss impacts him personally and also ensures that he is not drafted for the war. His mother Vera, a woman
who coddles her son and with a nervous disposition gets involved with a group of Jewish woman!

Thus far the story seems clear does it not? A boy-man with a leg lost a non-practising Jewish mother meeting up with kindred spirits... But your wrong. In essesance this book is about prophecies and personal beliefs that hinders and shape our characters in ways unexpected. Self-fulfilling prophecies makes Sebastian loose his girlfriend and unborn child? His own family has little to do with this particular set of events but in their own way, with their own beliefs they set events in motion!

Most of this book is about growth, and the ending was filled with hope! I kept wondering if these peoples lives would have turned out better if their inner dialogues and belief systems were positive instead of paranoid and negative! What I liked best? The way the story made me think and the setting in Vienna that gave me a glimpse into unexplored territory for me.

Deadly EyesDeadly Eyes by Mike Meyer
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I received a copy of this book from the author in return for an honest review.

I was intrigued by a story having two endings, so I thought I would give this book a try.

James Cuffy (or Cuff to his friends and acquaintances) is a normal man, living on a beautiful island. But even he has skeletons in his closet! I liked his character very much. He is somewhat naive and confused, when he is thrown into a mystery. Who is stalking him, and why? I loved his attempts at amateur sleuthing.

Rosie is a very strong character, both physically and figuratively. I wouldn't want to get on her bad side! She is an Amazon, but even she is at a loss as to why Cuff is being targeted.

I love a good suspense/mystery, so I was looking forward to reading this book. The author has done a remarkable job in bringing the island and the people alive in this story. The descriptions were vivid enough that I could almost "feel" the wind, and "hear" the sea. The story has many twists and turns that keep the mystery and suspense almost palpable. However, I guessed correctly as to who the "Deadly Eyes" stalker was, way before the actual person was revealed. What struck me was that James Cuffy (who's skeletons were rattling rather loudly in his cupboard), was completely clueless! As were the police! I actually felt sorry for James Cuffy, as he was being hunted on both sides, but also a bit disappointed in him too!
As this book has two endings, I decided to read both, to get an alternative comparison. The first ending was relatively normal, but I still had issues with the police and their "man hunt" investigation. The second ending was much darker and a lot longer. I think that I prefer the first ending, as the second ending still didn't satisfy the injustice I felt with regards to the police and their investigative procedures! It was sloppy and incompetent in my opinion! If I had police investigating me (although they wouldn't find anything!), I would want them to look harder and see past the easy evidence!

Michael Meyer has written a fast paced read that had me on the edge of my seat! I would have loved to have given this book a higher score, but feel that the author could have utilised the second ending a little bit differently. I am not sure what he was trying to do, but I found it to be slightly unbelievable and far fetched. If true, it would be downright terrifying!

I recommend this book if you love thrillers, mystery or suspense novels. - Lynn Worton

Book Review of Finding Never by C.M. Stunich

Finding Never (Never Say Never, #2)Finding Never by C.M. Stunich
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Review 6******

This is the second book in the Never Say Never trilogy. I LOVED it!

Never Ross is a fantastic character! I loved her feisty-ness from when I first met her in Tasting Never. She has a vulnerability about her that really made me care for her. She would probably tell me to get lost (in no uncertain terms!), but I think I could be friends with her. She has a penchant for swearing, which I don't really care for, but it makes her character seem more real. She also has an addiction to sex.

Ty McCabe is a bit of a bad boy and he is very sexy! He is also a fantastic character! I loved his ability to break through Never's shell. They make a fantastic couple!

This book is fantastic! I was gripped from the first page, and struggled to put it down! The story had me on a rollercoaster of emotion! I have never been estranged from my family, but I could feel Never's pain as she faced her family for the first time in over five years. I loved meeting her sisters, but her mother is a piece of work! I wanted to slap her, and I'm not normally a violent person!
I also loved meeting Noah Scott, Never's ex-boyfriend. He's a wonderful character, but I don't think that Never would have stayed with him, even without the drama which caused Never to leave in the first place. However, it is the intensity of the emotion between Never and Ty that kept me hooked! Their love is very deep and intense; they are both very passionate people! I am now looking forward to reading the concluding part of the story in Keeping Never.

C.M. Stunich has written an amazing series! Her characters are very life like and likeable! I have added this author to my favourite authors list, and I am looking forward to reading more of her books in the future.

Due to scenes of a sensual nature, plus the use of bad language, I do not recommend this book (or series) to younger readers. However, if you are looking for a fantastic New Adult romance series, then I HIGHLY recommend this one! - Lynn Worton

Talented by Sophie Davis

Ok, so this is a YA book with a love triangle.  Nice dialogue with suspense and a fast plot etc.
None of which is what I want to share with you.
This is what made this book a 5 * read for me.  You have Eric, Talia and Henri in a team.  Eric is a hot guy, the envy of others and woman will fall over themselves to gain his attention.
Talia is our main protagonist and she is nice and has a temper to boot.  None of which has anything to do with what I want to say.
Here is Henri.  He is a gay man in a place and time where his sexuality is not part of the equation.  He loves Frederick.  Frederick loves him.  This is still not what I want to talk about.
I want to talk about the fact that the author managed to portray Henri in such a manner that I came to respect him.  I often find myself rooting for one character or another.  At times I hate characters and at times I wonder if the author knows any character in a certain age bracket because I have never met such juvenile or on the other hand mature 13 year olds.  But NEVER has an author managed to make me respect a character.
The book itself with the story line deserves a 5 * rating.  But for this fact alone I would have awarded a 5*.  Henri is not even close to being one of the main protagonists but still he was fluffed out enough and of such character that I fell in love with character.
