Book Review of The Last Dragon (A Spin-off novel to The Witching Pen Novellas) by Dianna Hardy

Synopsis:

The Earth is in a state of shock after the apocalypse. The veil between dimensions is no more. Demons and fallen angels walk among humans, and everyone is trying to find their place in the new world - Morgan le Fey's world.

But the fairy queen finds herself cemented within humanity and struggling with human emotions, and her right-hand-man, Lucifer, has secrets which are causing fissions among every race.

Meanwhile, Karl and Elena struggle with their powers, Katarra delivers an important message, and two men will stop at nothing to protect their unborn child - the Messiah of the New Age - and the woman they love.

Far to the east, the fallen Archangel Michael is fighting for the one he holds above all others.

The last Dragon is about to rise and seal everyone's future, which depends solely on its survival ... or its extinction.

Notes: The Witching Pen series is comprised of a paranormal romance trilogy (books 1-3) and an urban fantasy novel, The Last Dragon. It is HIGHLY recommended that you read the trilogy first, so that you are not lost with this story. Contains explicit scenes of sex and some violence. Written in British English.

Review:

The Last DragonThe Last Dragon by Dianna Hardy
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Review 6******

I received a copy of this book from the author in return for an honest review.

This is the fourth book, and a spin off, of The Witching Pen series. I loved The Witching Pen novella's (a paranormal romance trilogy), so when I had the chance to get my hands on a copy of this book, I took it! I'm glad I did, because I loved it!

This story continues from the end of The Demon Bride. The barriers between the dimensions have dissolved and demons, angels and humans are struggling to come to terms with the change. Meanwhile, the dragon is beginning to stir.
I usually do a character breakdown when doing a review, but this story is told from too many different points of view to do so this time. It was nice to visit with Elena, Karl, Morgana, Lucifer, Abaddon, Michael, Amy, Pueblo, Paul, Kattara and Kathrine again. To avoid giving away any spoilers, I am going to refrain from saying too much. I will say this: This story took me on a HUGE rollercoaster ride of emotion. There are some twists and turns in this story that completely took me by surprise - my jaw literally dropped at one point! I struggled to put this book down and was completely hooked from the first page!
I felt sad when I came to the end of the book, because I wanted to keep reading! I am not sure if there will be another book after this one, but I sincerely hope so because I would like to know Brennan's story; His future intrigues me!

Dianna Hardy is a fantastic author! I am a HUGE fan of hers! I love her writing style, which is fast paced and fluid. I am looking forward to reading more of her work in the future!

As this book contains scenes of explicit sex, I do not recommend this book for readers younger than 17. However, I HIGHLY recommend this book (PLEASE read the Witching Pen novella's first though!) if you love sexy demons, angels and witches! Oh, and dragons! - Lynn Worton

Book Review of Worth The Fight by Vi Keeland

Book info
Title:      Worth the Fight
Author:  Vi Keeland
Publication date:  October 3, 2013
Summary:  Standalone, HEA

Blurb

It didn't matter that the ref called it a clean hit.  Nico Hunter would never be the same.

Elle has a good life.  A job she loves, a great apartment, and the guy she’s been dating for more than two years is a catch and a half.  But it’s boring…and she strives to keep it that way.  Too many emotions are dangerous.  Her own past is living proof of what can happen when you lose control.

Then Nico walks into Elle's office and everything changes…for both of them.  But what can the tattooed, hard-bodied MMA fighter and the beautiful and always steady attorney have in common?  A lot more than they bargained for.

Worth the Fight (MMA Fighter, #1)Worth the Fight by Vi Keeland
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I received a copy of this book from the author in return for an honest review.

This is a fantastic erotic romance! I loved it!

Elle is a fantastic character. She is an attorney, who is dedicated to her work (basically a workaholic!). She thinks she is happy with her life, but then she meets Nico and her life will never be the same again.

Nico "The Lady Killer" Hunter is also a fantastic character! He is an Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighter. A freak accident broke his spirit, but when he meets Elle, he knows that she is worth fighting for.

I have read other books by this author, so when the opportunity to read this book came up, I snatched it with both hands! I'm glad I did, because this is a fantastic story! I was completely hooked from the first page! The chemistry between Elle and Nico took my breath away! The story is told from both points of view, and gives the reader insight into their thoughts and feelings. I really liked both of these characters. Nico is an uber sexy male, but he also has a tender side that he rarely shows to anyone except his closest friends and family. Elle is warm and caring, but she is hiding a secret. There are also some memorable characters that bring this story to life. I really liked Preach, Nico's trainer and friend, and Regina, Elle's friend and receptionist at the firm she works at. Each character is unique and very lifelike! I kept expecting them to walk through my door! I must admit that I don't watch contact sports like boxing, wrestling or mixed martial arts, but the author's descriptions had me picturing the fights quite clearly and held me in thrall!

Vi Keeland has written another fast paced erotic romance that kept me hooked from start to finish! I am looking forward to reading the next book written by this author!

As this is an erotic romance, there are several scenes of a sexual nature that are explicit. Therefore, I do not recommend this book for readers younger than 17. However, if you love hot, steamy erotic romances, this book is for you! - Lynn Worton

Outback Fear by Suzanne Brandyn

Here is why I think you should get a copy...

Outback Fear by Suzanne Brandyn

This is a fun fast read of a strong woman who makes tough choices to ensure her child's safety.
Set in the Australian outback she encounters a dashing neighbor.  A Jackaroo with deep brown eyes who might be involved in a bank robbery and her husband is looking for her and Amy.
So starts a story of twists and turns.  Of a mother trying to start anew and to make sure her child is safe.
The Outback itself has secrets of its own.  When left to die in a deserted area with no water she has to will herself to fight the good fight of survival to see her little girl again.  Her husband however has other ideas.
Can her neighbor save her?
Filled with twists and turns this is a very entertaining read. I have only one critique. The third instance where she faced a life or death situation, for me as a reader was one too many.  After almost being hanged I felt sated with her as being an exceptional woman and the next scene was simply too much for me.  This will probably not be true for other readers.  It is only my opinion.  I felt the story rushed from one breath of terror to a next once that scene started.

All in all.  A really good read.  One I am not sad I spend time on.

The Book of Matt : Hidden Truths About The Murder of Matthew Shephard

Ok so as a Non Us citizen I requested this book from Netgalley for review because I wanted to break out of my usual review genre.
This book sure did that.
I studied journalism myself and have come to know that without having reputable, reliable, and multiple sources as an investigative journalist tool, said journalist will not have much of a story.
It’s is this exact tool that lessened my reading experience for it soon became repetitive.  I had to keep reminding myself of how a counter theory or truth is build once a popular belief has been accepted.  This is actually the part I loved the best in the book.  The parts where the author does not forward and alternate explanation but instead questioned why one theory was so readily accepted above all others.
I can see how Matthew became a martyr based on the description of the crime scene as well as the popular media liaison following his murder.  What I however wondered is if Matthew were killed in a big city, would he still be a martyr.  A boy with issues or would he have been a statistic.  So I walked away for a new question…why this much attention on the all American boy next door?
All in all a good if not a dramatic or fast read.

Michael Balkind

Michael Balkind
and The Fix is why we are having another amazing giveaway.

My Review

The Fix
At first I wanted to contact the author and tell him…slow down. No man will get into this much trouble from being such a dedicated and focused young man. Then I read a bit further The reader will meet Colt, the boy next door with the patience and dedication to become a sport star. He has it all, a loving and supporting family. A beautiful girlfriend. The means and the opportunity to make his dreams come true and a strong moral compass. Then the reader meets Frank Gernsner. The complete opposite of Colt. Or so it would seem. I never could understand match fixing. In a sport like boxing or such, sure. One man, taking the fall made sense in other sports where you are part of a team it was beyond me. In this book I learned how gamblers get roped in with falsified odd payouts. That was new to me; I contacted a friend of mine, a consummate gambler and asked him if this made sense…mind you this was at the start of the book. He replied negatively with a ps clarifying only if the Holder is roping in a newbie…well now that made sense. NOT. But as I read more it became apparent. I found the pace and the extent of Colt's downward spiral fascination and abhorring. And soon my doubts made way with incredulous awe as I came to understand that the author managed to capture the one weakness most of the Western world holds dear. Money and an excess of it. I came to realize that I might have fallen as hard and as fast as colt did in THE FIX. Colt becomes Frank Gertner and due to his debt he gets pulled into even more rocky ground. Match fixing… The story is not all doom and gloom though and the ending came as a pleasant surprise that will fill the readers mind with hope. Colt is saved not solely by an outside source although this source is the catalyst but also by making a decision for the greater good. One that can cost him everything. A five star read for any reader. A sport fan might take more from this than I did but I doubt it. The sport is the mechanism the humanity is the cause and effect.
